Andrew Finlayson is the Senior Vice President of Digital and Social Media Strategies at SmithGeiger where he works with leading media companies regarding digital strategies such as social media, streaming video and mobile news consumption. He consults on social media with leading media companies and stations around the country as well as national programs such as Jimmy Kimmel Live.
He joined SmithGeiger after completing the John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford University where he studied emerging media technologies with a focus on the impact social media has on the news. Prior to the fellowship he was the Director of Online Content and Business Development for the Fox Television Stations. He was promoted to this position after serving as the vice president for news at Fox Chicago's duopoly WFLD-WPWR.
Finlayson has also been a news director in Nashville for Meredith’s WSMV and was the news director at Cox’s San Francisco/Oakland KTVU when the station was honored by the Project for Excellence in Journalism for the highest quality local newscast in the country.
He is the recipient of numerous Emmy and Edward R Murrow regional awards. He is also an writer for publications such as the Nieman Reports and is the author of the book, “Questions That Work” (AMACOM) which has been translated into five languages.
