About me
I am Perina Niza Wahara an accomplished journalist with over a decade of experience navigating the dynamic landscape of media and communication. My journey has taken me from a junior reporter to senior leadership roles, honing my skills in storytelling, leadership, and advocacy along the way. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from Pentecostal Life University in Malawi and further enriched my expertise with certifications in Media Management and Leadership from renowned institutions, including WAN-IFRA’s Women in News Leadership Accelerator Program plus a certificate in radio and television production from Belgium based Exchange. This intensive training has equipped me with advanced skills in change management, financial oversight, and strategic marketing. Currently serving as the Senior Programs Producer at Pentecostal Life FM, I also volunteer as a Communications Officer for Bwalo Lathu Collective, where I strive to empower marginalized voices. My passion for women and girls’ empowerment is complemented by a commitment to ensuring that boys are equally supported, fostering mutual respect and understanding in our communities thus underscoring my belief in the power of media to drive social change. Throughout my career, I’ve covered significant stories—such as the death of President Bingu wa Mutharika and the high-profile court case involving former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo—each shaping my resilience and deepening my network across academia, government, and NGOs. My membership in the Executive Committee of the Association for Women in Media in Malawi, Media Council of Malawi, MISA Malawi and other professional organizations reflects my dedication to creating positive change in journalism. Despite the demanding nature of journalism—marked by tight deadlines and high-pressure situations—I remain committed to maintaining my mental well-being. The challenges of cyberbullying and stress have been real, yet they fuel my determination to advocate for mental health awareness within our profession.
