About me
Jane Hawkes is a co-founder and executive producer of the Canadian Journalism Forum on Violence and Trauma, an educational charity promoting the physical safety and mental health of journalists, as well as the well-being of their subjects and news consumers.
Among the Forum’s flagship projects are Mindset: Reporting on Mental Health and En-Tête: reportage et santé mentale, the leading guides in newsrooms and journalism schools across Canada; the Trauma Assistance Fund for Freelancers; the Forum Freelance Fund providing safety training bursaries; and the recently-launched Trauma Aware Journalism industry toolkit, in partnership with CBC and the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma.
Previously, Jane worked for many years at the CBC before working in independent international documentary production. She served on the executive board of the UK-based International News Safety Institute from 2010-2013.
